Our curriculum is guided by a knowledge of early childhood development and an awareness of what young children need to learn to be ready for kindergarten. We know that young children learn best:
- When they are actively involved in play and have the opportunity to explore, question, investigate and manipulate objects and materials in a developmentally appropriate environment.
- When there is a balance of child initiated and teacher directed activities that area result of respect for the interests of the child, awareness of the "teachable moment" and thoughtful planning of intentional learning experiences.
- When teachers and parents respect that every child is a unique learner and capabe of reaching individual developmental milestones at their own pace and in their own style.
- When daily program experiences encourage development of the "whole child" (social/emotional, language, cognitive, physical and creative development).
The outline of our curriculum is guided by the Connecticut State Department of Education Preschool Curriculum Framework. The standards of this framework are imbedded in our daily activities and address all the major areas of development necessary to grow the "whole child". An important component of our curricululm is family partnership. This partnership is fostered by:
- Daily interactions bewteen parent and teacher.
- Weekly updates, newsletters, photos and information sent via email to parents.
- Parent/Teacher conferences scheduled in November and April; informal conferences scheduled throughout the year as needed at teacher and/or parent request.
- Opportunities for parents to share talents, traditions and interests in classroom.
- Discussions on early childhood topics available to interested parents.
- Automatic membership in Parent Association.
Our curriculum allows us to meet each child’s needs and promote individual cognitive, social, emotional, creative and physical development. Our goal is to help children and families experience that growing includes not only the individual, but the support and emotional involvement of the community. It is about learning how to "BE" together!
